Progression Documents
In planning our curriculum, the essential component knowledge was carefully identified for each unit. The culmination of this effort resulted in the creation of the knowledge progression documents. This was matched against the National Curriculum requirements and concepts and knowledge built on year by year. Learners will revisit the different strands of the curriculum regularly throughout the year and year on year - developing a little but often system and ensuring that knowledge and skills in a strand are not left for over a year before they visit them again. This is the basis of a spiral curriculum.
These documents are valuable resources that outline the progression of knowledge in both Information Technology and Digital Literacy, covering the five key themes. They also highlight the key knowledge progression in Computer Science through the Code Studio platform.
The key knowledge is broken down into two main categories: declarative knowledge (what children should know) and procedural knowledge (what learners should know how to do). In the past, these categories were often referred to as 'knowledge' and 'skills'.
The knowledge progression documents will greatly support your teaching process, ensuring that your learners build a strong foundation and confidently progress through the computing curriculum.
